Here's something you need to know when it comes to your taxes.

How you send off your tax return could affect when you get your refund. According to the Michigan Treasury Department, stapling your state income tax return slows down the process.

When you staple your return, those staples have to be removed in the mail room. Every piece of paper with a hole in it then has to be flattened and taped so it can be scanned and processed, slowing down individual income tax refunds and other services.

The Treasury Department encourages tax payers to use binder clips, paper clips even rubber bands instead.
