The veteran Irish singer and entertainer is known as “Ireland’s Happy Man.” Combining singing, piano playing and joke telling, those who have seen his show around the country have remarked that he is “quite an entertaining showman and very uplifting.”
Nephew of the former prime minister of Ireland, Jack Lynch Dunne, Cahal Dunne won Ireland’s National Song Contest with his composition, “Happy Man.” Dunne represented his country at the International Eurovision Music Contest in Israel and the song went to Number 1 in Europe and Ireland. Dunne has performed on PBS and once sang for former President Jimmy Carter and wife, Rosalyn.
Dunne says he is most at ease onstage. “I enjoy the kick I get back from the audience and enjoy them having a good time. Sometimes people will tell me I helped them out, I allowed them to forget for a while. That’s pretty big to me. I can actually bring them in and let them lose themselves for a few hours,” he says.
