UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- Tom Hanks, one of the world's top-grossing movie actors of all time, stars in a trio of films when Tom Hanks: Comedy Favorites Collection comes to DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
“Tom Hanks: Comedy Favorites Collection” boasts the star's performances opposite Shelley Long in the comedy of errors "The Money Pit," Carrie Fisher in the whodunit "The 'Burbs," and Dan Aykroyd in cop caper "Dragnet." The collection features digitally remastered pictures and bonus features like a documentary on "The Making of 'The Money Pit'" and an alternate ending for "The 'Burbs."
"The Money Pit"
In this comedy from executive producer Steven Spielberg, a young couple (Hanks and Shelley Long) buys a rambling fixer upper at a price that turns out to be too good to be true. After being evicted from their Manhattan apartment, Walter Fielding and Anna Crowley decide to purchase a house in the suburbs that they intend to turn into the home of their dreams. It isn't long before their potential paradise becomes their worst nightmare as they watch the house slowly disintegrate in a series of disasters.
"The 'Burbs"
Ray Peterson (Hanks) decides that a week at home is the most relaxing vacation he can imagine. His plans for a peaceful respite are upset by the strange goings on in his suburban neighborhood. When a cranky neighbor disappears, Ray begins to suspect foul play and enlists the help of the neighborhood conspiracy freak (Bruce Dern) in his sleuthing. Despite the warnings of his dubious spouse (Carrie Fisher), Ray and his buddies investigate their newest neighbors, the Klopeks. They discover what they believe to be a front for a cannibalistic cult in the comedy from director Joe Dante ("Gremlins").
"Dragnet"
This homage to the class television series features Dan Aykroyd as Detective Sgt. Joe Friday, straight-laced nephew of the legendary LAPD stalwart, with Hanks as his feckless new partner, Pep Streebek. When Friday and Streebek investigate a series of crimes, they discover an occult conspiracy that reaches the upper echelons of Los Angeles' power brokers, including a crooked police official (Elizabeth Ashley) and a power-mad man of God (Christopher Plummer). In order to solve the mystery and save the city, the partners infiltrate the deadly faction behind the bizarre goings-on.
