Stella's Oscar-Themed First Birthday Party

  • Print

This past weekend, we celebrated our daughter Stella's first birthday party. Her actual birthday is today, but with the Oscars falling just the night before her big day, it seemed appropriate to have a red carpet birthday party.

It was a lot of fun putting together the elements of this party. Because Stella's name means "star," we already have many star elements in her nursery and with her clothing. I asked A Piece O' Cake in East Lansing to create a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star cake with Stella's name on it, and boy did they deliver! The cake was also very delicious and went well with the MSU Dairy Store ice cream we got especially for the party.

I knew I wanted to give away popcorn as a favor so friends and family could snack on it while watching the Oscars later in the evening (or on the ride home). One of our favorite local treats is Stella's Crazy Good Caramel Corn, made in Lansing - and a perfect name to boot! I bought bags of this yummy stuff at Dusty's Wine Cellar shop in Okemos.

For the movie-themed decorations, I had to look no further than Party City for dangling movie cameras, stars, and clapboards. They also had a red carpet, which made for a fun photo-op during the party.

We tried to keep the menu simple and easy to eat, with two different kinds of sliders (meatballs and pulled pork), taco dip cups, caprese skewers, and fresh fruit and salads. Many of the ideas came from Pinterest:

We feel so lucky to have had a house full to celebrate Stella's first birthday in such style and fun. I'm so happy with how everything came together and appreciate all of the help we had.

Our sweet little girl has been lighting up our life for the past year, and while it's sad to say goodbye to Babyland, we're ready to enter Toddlertown.

Happy birthday, Stella Maria!
