A Very Merry She & Him Christmas Station

  • Print

It's that time of year when several radio stations are devoted to playing the same mix of Christmasy tunes to get people geared up for the season. And as much as I love the classics, from Nat King Cole's "Christmas Song" to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You", there are times when I yearn for the kind of music I love to listen to year-round: quirky coffeehouse-style covers.

Enter Pandora, and their She & Him (Holiday) station. Where else could one hear Death Cab for Cutie singing "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", Jason Mraz singing "Winter Wonderland", or even an original song, like "Spotlight on Christmas" by Rufus Wainwright. Not to mention, whimsical songs from the A Very She & Him Christmas album are sprinkled throughout.

This station makes decades-old songs sound bouncy and fresh, and also exposes me to songs and rare covers I wouldn't have heard otherwise this season.

It's worth a listen - especially if you can't stand to hear "Jingle Bell Rock" one more time.
