Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes
I've always been an old soul when it comes to my musical tastes. I started getting into Simon and Garfunkel in high school and college - their music provided the perfect backdrop to working on essays or walking around campus to classes.
Ever since meeting my husband, I've grown to love Paul Simon's solo work and songwriting. When we made CD mixes for each other during our courtship and early dating years, he included many songs I wasn't very familiar with. One of them was "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes". Since then, it has been my favorite Paul Simon song. It never fails to make me smile and think of sunny days driving around town.
After watching Carrie Fisher's special Wishful Drinking, I learned a lot about her relationship and marriage to Paul Simon. She shared stories about the songs he wrote about her, and said, "If you can get Paul Simon to write a song about you... DO IT."
Oh, if only I could, Carrie.
One of the songs she talked about during the special was "Hearts and Bones":
Paul is performing at the FOX Theatre in Detroit, and we are double dating with my parents. I've been fortunate to see some really amazing music artists in my life thus far, but I'm more than thrilled to cross Paul Simon off of my Concert Bucket List.
