Part 2: My Quest for Flowers
As I mentioned in my last blog post, I was a little behind in planting flowers, but I bought new pots and was ready for the challenge.
I found some great looking pots at both Lowe's and Walmart. All together I bought 8 new pots and 3 hanging baskets. Add those to my existing collection and I was at 16 pots! However, in the end only planned to use 12 of the 16. The other few will be set aside for a small container herb garden.
My husband Art and I met over a lunch hour one day at Van Atta's to peruse their selection and pick out our plants. I had never been to Van Atta's before, so I was equally excited to check the place out. I do have to say, it was very extensive and beautiful. Everyone was super knowledgeable and eager to help. We were there on a hot day around 12 p.m., so it was very toasty and a bit uncomfortable, but we had to do what we had to do. The hubby and I entered and were quickly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of plants. After about 15 minutes of aimlessly wandering, we re-convened and crafted a plan.
He headed to the area of flats to decide what to plant in our beds, he's a huge fan of impatient's so I wasn't at all surprised when he chose them. We wanted all our flowers in the front of the house to coordinate so we went with a pink/purple color scheme. A blend of impatient's, wave petuna's, potato vine and these really cool tall dark black-ish purple-ish plants rounded out our selection.
In the back of the house on our decks, I fell in love with these huge red geraniums, so I went with a patriotic scheme: red, white and blue.
Here is a photo of just ONE of our carts. In total, we had 3 carts full of flowers. And after dropping a small fortune, we had our flowers loaded in the back of the Jeep.
More to come on the actual planting! See you soon :)
