STUFF THE TRUCK FOR ANIMALS
Ingham County Animal Shelter Holds Holiday Open House Dec. 1st
MASON, MI.-Volunteers and staff at the Ingham County Animal Shelter in Mason are working hard to make sure the homeless animals at the shelter get the toys on their wish list this Christmas. The shelter crew is hoping to fill one of the Animal Control trucks with all sorts of leashes, collars, Frisbees, tennis balls, Kong toys, scratching posts, cat chaser toys, kitty litter and a variety of goodies on Saturday December 1st from noon-6pm. The public is encouraged to bring items and help stuff the truck for the homeless dogs and cats of Ingham County.
According to event coordinator Lisa Bates, “The items we’re asking for are toys, chew bones and items that make the quality of life for these animals so much better while they are at the shelter.” “These are luxuries for the animals—the shelter cannot afford to buy these items—they go through hundreds of toys each week—it takes a lot of toys to make 100 dogs and 100 cats happy and that’s how many dogs and cats are in this shelter on any day of the week.”
Local businesses are also pitching in. Petco, Soldan’s, Family Farm & Home in Mason, Pet Supplies Plus and Preuss Pets all have wish lists posted in their stores with the desired items listed. Shoppers can also leave the items in the store donation boxes and shelter volunteers will pick them up.
There will be additional activities as well on this day such as micro-chipping pets for a low fee of $12 per dog. The best deal of the day will be the Half-off adoption fees for all spayed or neutered animals for that day ONLY... There will be a tree lighting ceremony for the kick-off of the Cats vs. Dogs Snoopey vs. Felex, 1st Annual Tree Competition.
They’ll be lots goodies for visitors to take home with them, door prizes and visitors can do some Christmas shopping at the “shelter shop” for Holiday cards, t-shirts and a variety of animal care items. Refreshments will be in ample supply. For more information call 517-676-8373, visit a participating pet store or come by the shelter at 600 Curtis Street in mason.
